Compass Project A New Chapter

Walking by Faith.

Welcome to to a new beginning. The Compass Project started in June 2025 with the aim to support and increase the faith mission and outreach work of The New Parish Church in Port Glasgow.

My name is John Denyer and as of today (28th July 25) I am the mission and outreach worker at Compass Outreach. I have just left my previous role as an IT Information Security Analyst at the University of the West of Scotland based in Paisley. I spent 18 years working within the IT department in various roles over the years. It was a big decision to leave UWS but after allot of consideration and decrement, if this was indeed the path the God wanted me to take on.

After many sleepless nights and a nudge from my son Jake, who at 18, said to me 'you could be staying in the same seat at UWS for the next 10-15 years wondering what if...' On that thought I put in my application (nothing to loose), done the interview and got the job! Just like that 18 years at UWS coming to an end.

After handing in my notice with a few tears, working my notice period with a few more tears and finally getting an amazing send off from my friends at UWS with even more tears I find myself at my desk reflecting on what's just happened and why existing new adventures are ahead.

Thank you UWS for everything you have provided my and my family over the many years. The doors isn't closed as we will meet again as things grow and develop with this project.

To all at New Parish who have supported the project thank you for the opportunity to serve you, our community in Port Glasgow and God in this new venture.
